The Family

The Cirera family, current owner of the building and the hotel activity, has owned this stately country house since 1836. Generation after generation, this family has aimed to preserve the heritage and pass it on to their descendants, in the wish to carry on writing more chapters of the book about its history.

The Family

The Cirera family, current owner of the building and the hotel activity, has owned this stately country house since 1836. Generation after generation, this family has aimed to preserve the heritage and pass it on to their descendants, in the wish to carry on writing more chapters of the book about its history.

In the old days, Majorcan stately country houses performed economic functions of the outmost importance in the production chain of Majorcan noble families; they were the distribution point for the goods produced in the farms, they were offices, meeting points, market centres and the family dwelling. Over time, and upon the arrival of new economic systems, these functions disappeared and they became exclusively the dwellings of Majorcan well-to-do families.

“The Cirera family, current owner of the building and the hotel activity, has owned this stately country house since 1836”

Ca’n Cirera has taken in various illustrious personages, both from former owner families (Malferit and Vivot) and from the current owner family (Rojo de Luis, Mas del Pla del Rei and Cirera).

“You will have the opportunity to get to know the history of this singular building and its most illustrious former owners”

Over recent generations, Ca’n Cirera has been the home for important figures such as Josep Cirera Mas del Pla del Rei, photographer and philanthropist, whose pictures can be enjoyed today at the hotel, and others such as Jaume Cirera i Prim, a Catalan chemical engineer, genealogist and bibliophile, finally settled in Majorca, who created a very thorough archive in the genealogy field, for which he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Genealogy and Heraldry.

“The family that owns Ca’n Cirera is closely connected to Majorca and this is why they follow a life philosophy very deeply tied to their land”

Over the last twenty years, the city of Palma has become a tourist destination apart from the coastal tourism and, as a result, stately country houses have been able to recover their splendour thanks to the involvement of investors who have wanted to turn them into hotels.

Over the last twenty years, the city of Palma has become a tourist destination apart from the coastal tourism and, as a result, stately country houses have been able to recover their splendour thanks to the involvement of investors who have wanted to turn them into hotels.

The current owner, Miquel Cirera i Puig, and his son, Joan Cirera i Planas, with the goal of preserving, restoring and enhancing this heritage, have promoted the current project, transforming their house into a small family business hotel at the service of this more cultural tourism, Miquel being in charge of the execution of the renovation.

“All the architectural elements of value have been respected and other hidden ones have been discovered”

Such renovation has been carried out, very carefully, by an in-house team that has respected all the valuable architectural elements and has discovered others that were hidden, reassessing the architectural building and giving it a modern and historic image.

The family that owns Ca’n Cirera is closely connected to Majorca and, following a life philosophy very deeply tied to their land, has committed to their own local production of Majorcan products such as cheeses, sausage and oil produced by Lluis Cirera i Planas in the Son Cànaves eco-farm. It is an honour for Ca’n Cirera to be able to offer their guests the most authentic flavour of these traditional products from Majorca.

“We put ourselves at the service of the population and open a hidden treasure of ancient Palma”

Our current goal is to share this historic and heritage asset, unique in Palma, with guests, to convey the relevance of these buildings in Palma’s old town, and to allow visitors to enjoy the charm and history of Ca’n Cirera. We put ourselves at the service of the people and open a hidden treasure of Palma’s old town.
